Takumi Minamino’s Future At Liverpool May Be Up In The Air, But He Is Doing No Harm To His Cause While With His National Team

The 26-year-old was signed by the Reds from RB Salzburg in January 2020, and struggled in his first 12 months on Merseyside.

After his first calendar year saw him score just once in a Liverpool shirt, Minamino was sent out on loan to Southampton on deadline day in the winter.

A bright start saw him score two goals in his first three appearances, but none in his remaining seven for the Saints.

Now that the club season is completed, Minamino is currently with the Japan national team as they take part in their World Cup qualifiers.

Minamino was in action on Monday as Japan beat Tajikistan 4-1, with the Liverpool playmaker getting on the scoresheet.

His strike followed on from his brace against Mongolia at the end of last month, which takes his goal tally to 11 in his last 13 caps.

After Minamino’s latest goal against Tajikistan, Liverpool fans reacted by giving their predictions for what could happen next in his career at Anfield.

Here is a selection of what they had to say.

Rithsv: “Taki’s currently on fire for Japan. Has now scored 9 goals in the last 7 apps (including this one) for Japan in the 2022 qualifiers. This also makes him the current top scorer in Asian WC qualifying.”

ABradley19955: “He’d do well in the Bundesliga. Probably best for all parties involved if he moves on this summer.”

SebastienOwenR1: “I think we just need to give him a chance. I think it’s unfounded to say he’s not fit for the PL. He was on loan at a Southampton team who had no functioning system the second half of the season.”
