Jordi Cruff Is Set To Return To Barcelona

The manager will leave his post in Chinese football and put his faith in Barcelona, where he will play a similar tole to his father Johan in Laporta’s previous spell as president.

Barcelona confirmed this Thursday yet another movement in what has been a frantic week for the Catalan side. In this case, the new signing won’t have too much to do with the field of play, at least not in a direct sense.

On 1st August Jordi Cruyff will return to the club in which he started, doing so to become a new man in the ‘football area of the club’, a role in which he will become a new advisor to president Joan Laporta. In Laporta’s first spell as president, Jordi’s father and Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff played a similar role, although often in the shadows and without much of a relation to the club.

While this recent role might be far from the manager’s bench, Jordi Cruyff was rumoured as a possible replacement for Ronaldo Koeman and was even linked with Victor Font’s candidacy for Barca president. In that case, he would have most likely become sporting director at the club, a role which is currently occupied Mateu Alemany under Laporta.

Barca had a meeting between the Board of Directors this Thursday and it was here where Jordi Cruyff’s name was confirmed, who had already landed in Barcelona and had made his way to the club’s offices in the morning. According to Catalan media sources, the Dutchman will accept a fairly significant paycut to return to the club, with Barca thanking Chinese side Shenzhen for their collaboration in facilitating his arrival.
