Ousmane Dembele’s potential contract renewal has taken its first step towards completion. Barcelona started conversations with the player this Tuesday 8th June, and the feelings are positive at the Camp Nou.
Despite wanting him to stay at the club, it still can’t be ruled out that Dembele may form part of a possible transfer deal this summer.
The situation of Ousmane Dembele at Barcelona has become one of the main issues to resolve for Joan Laporta and his Board of Directors. His contract is currently in place until 2022, and the future of the Frenchman could be decided in the next few weeks to avoid the possibility of him leaving on a free next season.
Initially, both parties appeared to be far apart on recent occasions, but it seems that the directive at the club have gone to work to resolve the ‘Dembele dilemma’.
Information from ‘Esport3’ reveals that Barca and Dembele have got conversations underway over a possible contract renewal – and the early stages have left positive feelings at the Camp Nou.
According to the aforementioned media outlet, these initial conversations to test the water have led the Catalan side to believe that the Frenchman wants to extend his contract at a club, where he arrived way back in 2017.
That being said, despite these developments and the fact that Barca themselves want Dembele to stay at the club, it still can’t be ruled out that the player could form part of a possible transfer deal this summer, if that’s what it takes to land a big-name signing.
One way or another, both the player and club have organised to meet again to strike up new conversations next week, although it is expected that the issue will continue throughout the summer.
