Flying On The Ground serves as the second of two new tracks featured on ‘Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)’, the greatest hits collection celebrating 10 years of the former Oasis man’s solo career, due out on June 11 via Sour Mash Records.
Produced by Gallagher and Paul ‘Strangeboy’ Stacey, the melodic offering finds Gallagher joined by backing singers throughout, over airy layered instrumentation, including horn and string sections. It comes with a French New Wave cinema-inspired video which links to the narrative of the clip accompanying previous single We’re On Our Way Now.
It boasts returning stars Matt Smith and Gala Gordon, along with a cameo from Gallagher himself, and will premiere on YouTube today at 6pm BST. He said:
“Flying On The Ground is literally the best thing I’ve released since the last thing I released. If Burt Bacharach wrote for Motown this is what it would sound like… only not as good… obviously.”
Co-directors Dan Cadan and Jonathan Mowatt for Rankin added: “This video reveals the true darkness behind the relationship between our protagonists… and its tragic undoing – a blatant nod to A Bout De Souffle (Breathless) and Bande A Part (The Outsiders). Matt and Gala were left to their own devices to improvise each scene within both videos.”
Gallagher was recently announced as the official ambassador for this year’s Record Store Day.
