Barenaked Ladies Have Shared Details Of Their 16th Studio Album

The follow-up to 2017’s ‘Fake Nudes’ is called ‘Detour de Force’ and will arrive on July 16. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Eric Ratz and Mark Howard, it’ll include the previously unveiled Flip along with New Disaster, a catchy offering built on driving pop-rock energy. Vocalist Ed Robertson said:

“New Disaster is about the distraction of modern politics coupled with the pressures of the 24-hour news cycle. It seemed like the Nostradamus predictions of new disasters were getting worse and worse, even after we recorded the song.”

Discussing the LP, he revealed: “We’ve always liked that our band is very diverse in what we do, and on this record I really enjoyed the exploration. This record is a journey. Taking off one song would tip it in a way we didn’t feel was representative of the record we made. We wanted everything that’s here to be part of the record.”

Drummer Tyler Stewart added: “This is some of our strongest material in 30 years, easily. I think it stands up there with our best albums. It hangs with ‘Gordon’, or it hangs with ‘Maroon’.”

The Canadian band have released a short teaser video capturing the making of ‘Detour de Force’. Take a look below along with the record’s artwork and tracklist.

Barenaked Ladies will embark on a rescheduled UK tour in October with support from Boothby Graffoe on all dates, and also KT Tunstall in London. Original tickets are valid. They’ve also booked the extensive North American Last Summer On Earth Tour for summer 2022.
